Antoine Risso

Antoine Joseph Risso ( born August 7, 1777 Nice; † August 25, 1845 ) was a French naturalist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Risso ".

Life and work

Risso studied under Giovanni Battista Balbis ( 1765-1831 ). He worked as a pharmacist, zoologist and botanist. Risso published Ichthyology de Nice (1810 ), Histoire naturelle de principales productions de l'Europe méridionale (1826 ) and Flore de Nice (1844 ). Together with Pierre Antoine Poiteau he wrote History naturelle des orangers ( 1818-1820 ).
