Antoine Tamestit

Antoine Tamestit (* 1979 ) is a French violist and music professor.

Life and work

Antoine Tamestit, son of a violin teacher and composer, received his first violin lessons from the age of five. At age nine, he opted for learning the viola. He studied at the Paris Conservatory with Jean Sulem (* 1959), after which he was a student of Jesse Levine at Yale University and the Tokyo String Quartet, before he continued his studies with Tabea Zimmermann in Berlin.

At international competitions, he received numerous prizes, including in 2000 the first prize at the Concours International d' alto Maurice Vieux, 2001 also first prize at the Concours International William Primrose, the 2003 Young Concert Artists Auditions in New York, in 2004 at the International Music Competition of the ARD. The BBC he was awarded the New Generation Artist, respectively, for the concert season 2005-2006 and 2006-2007. In 2007 he received the French award "Best Young Instrumental Soloist of the Year" at the " Victoires de la musique classique ", the 2008 Prize to the Bremen Music Festival Prize.

Since 2005, Antoine Tamestit numerous appearances with orchestras in concert cities, especially in Europe. He played the viola debut of several concerts, the Viola Concerto by Olga Neuwirth, and with Tabea Zimmermann 's Double Concerto for two violas by Bruno Mantovani. Jörg Widmann composed for him a viola concerto, which should only be staged in 2015.

His concert partners include, among numerous other Tabea Zimmermann, Gautier and Renaud Capuçon brothers, Gidon Kremer, Mischa Maisky and Jean -Guihen Queyras. Tamestit has been a permanent member of the 2007, founded by Frank Peter Zimmermann Trio Zimmermann.

Since October 2007, Antoine Tamestit is Professor of Viola at the University of Music and Dance Cologne.

Antoine Tamestit plays a viola by Étienne Vatelot (* 1925) and since 2008 the so-called "Mahler " by Antonio Stradivari in 1672, which provided him with the Stradivari Foundation - Habisreutinger available ..
