Anton Diffring

Anton Diffring ( born October 20, 1918 in Koblenz, † May 20 1989 in Chateauneuf- Grasse, France ) was a German actor in theater, film and television.

Life

Diffring studied acting in Vienna and Berlin until the outbreak of the war, emigrated in 1939 to Canada, where he was interned, however. He had in 1949 in Canada First theater performances; a move to Hollywood did not succeed professionally. When he went to Britain in 1951, he quickly found employment in war movies; he was one of the German actors who were successful in international productions, where he was most often seen in supporting roles as a Nazi officer or menacing figure.

On television Diffring was seen in series, as in Le Mutant (France, 1978) or Flambards ( UK, 1979). He died in 1989 from cancer.

Diffring is the brother of artist Jacqueline Diffring.
