Anton Wassmuth

Anton Wassmuth ( born May 5, 1844 pin Tepl at Marienbad, † April 22, 1927 in Graz) was an Austrian physicist and university teacher.

Life

The butcher and innkeeper 's son Anton Wassmuth, who had already employed in his high school years with higher mathematics, took after successfully completing the Matura, the studies of mathematics, science and philosophy, among others with Ernst Mach at the Karl- Ferdinand University in Prague in 1866 was his PhD. Anton Wassmuth joined as an assistant at the Royal in the same year. German Landespolytechnikum in Prague, in 1870, he transferred to himself the function of kk Polytechnic Institute in Vienna.

After his habilitation in 1871 for Electricity and Magnetism at the University of Vienna, his lectureship for electromagnetism at the Philosophical Faculty was transferred there. In 1876 he took over the associate professor of mathematical physics at the newly built University of Chernivtsi, 1882, he was promoted to full professor. 1890 took Wassmuth an offer for the same professor at the University of Innsbruck true, in addition, he was the head of the Institute for Mathematical Physics, 1891, he was elected Dean of the Faculty of Arts. Wassmuth changed in 1893 in yourself function at the University of Graz, 1914, he became Professor Emeritus.

Anton Wassmuth, who has been dealing with thermal elasticity, electromagnetism and statistical mechanics, in 1885 a full member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, 1903, included as a full member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna.
