Antoni Julian Nowowiejski

Antoni Julian Nowowiejski ( born February 11, 1858 in Lubienia at Opatów, † May 28 1941 in Soldau ) was a Polish Catholic priest and Bishop of Płock.

Life

Nowowiejski studied the Russian Congress Poland to the seminaries of Płock and Saint Petersburg. On July 10, 1881 he was ordained a priest and rose to become rector of the Płock Seminary, for canon and vicar general of the Diocese of Płock.

On 12 June 1908 he was elected bishop of Plock, consecrated bishop on 6 December 1908, he was awarded by his predecessor Archbishop Apolinary Wnukowski, who was appointed by Mogilev ( Belarus ).

On November 25, 1930, he was awarded by Pope Pius XI. the personal title of Titular Archbishop per hac vice, as Titularerzbistum Silyum was offered to him.

Nowowiejski renewed the administrative structures of the diocese and engaged - quite unusual for his time - in detail with the care of souls. At the same time he was considered an important liturgist, for which he was honored by the University of Warsaw with an honorary doctorate. He was also an honorary citizen of the city of Płock.

After the German invasion and annexation of the region of East Prussia Nordmasowien he was arrested and taken to the camps and Słupno Soldau, where he died from the effects of him -inflicted torture.

On 13 June 1999 he was beatified by Pope John Paul II, together with other 107 martyrs of World War II (3 bishops, 30 priests, monks 7, 7 nuns, 28 lay people )
