Antoni Paweł Sułkowski

Antoni Paweł Sułkowski ( German Anton Paul Prince Sulkowski ) (* December 31, 1785 in Leszno, † April 13, 1836 in Rydzyna ) was a Polish general in the service of Napoleon, the Duchy of Warsaw and the Kingdom of Poland and in 1824 Prussian State Council.

Life

He was descended from the Polish princely family Sułkowski and was the son of Anton Prince Sulkowski. The mother Karolina came from a noble family Bubna and Lititz. He studied in Breslau and Göttingen. He married Eva ( née Countess of Kicka ). From the marriage of the son of Prince August Anton and four daughters were born. He was the owner of ordination Rydzyna and the county Leszno.

He joined in 1806 after the defeat of Prussia in the service of Napoleon or of the Duchy of Warsaw. He was the first Polish infantry regiment with the rank of colonel. He drew from in the sieges of Kolberg and Danzig and was promoted to brigadier general. In the years 1808-1810 he served in Spain and has proven there militarily. This was about the case for the defense of Toledo, in the battles of Almonacid and Ocassa. At times he was governor of Malaga. In 1810 he returned to the Duchy of Warsaw.

In the Russian campaign Sulkowski led the cavalry brigade of the V Corps under Josef Anton Poniatowski and was severely wounded on 18 October of the year. He was promoted to major general. In the Battle of Leipzig, he led a mobile corps, and he himself fought at the head of a cavalry brigade. After the death of Poniatowski, he was commander of the Polish forces. With these he made with the withdrawal of combat. In Fulda, it came into conflict with Napoleon. Sulkowski had promised the Polish soldiers, lead them back to Poland. Napoleon persuaded the other officers with the troops to remain in the French army. Then Sulkowski resigned the supreme command and returned to Poland.

He has played a leading role in the reorganization of the Polish Army in the rank of lieutenant general. He was adjutant general of Tsar Alexander I.. In 1816 he resigned from active military service. He moved his center of life in the Prussian part of Poland. There he was in 1824 Marshal of the first county council of poses and member of the Prussian State Council.
