The airport of Guam with the official name Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport is an international airport near the capital, Hagåtña. He is the main aviation hub in the Asia Pacific airlines United Airlines and Pacific Airlines.

History

The airport served in World War II as a military airfield by the U.S. Air Force and was at that time still Agana Naval Air Station ( Brewer Field). One terminal for passenger flights existed at that time but it had already done. In 1969, the airport officially as a commercial airport in the Government of Guam 's Department of Commerce. In 1975, the A. B. Won Pat Guam Int'l Airport Authority, the Guam International Airport. It was named after Antonio Borja Won Pat, the first delegate from Guam in the House of Representatives of the United States.

In 1982, the first terminal of the airport was inaugurated. 1996, it was replaced by a new terminal building and is now broke. In the near future the Antonio B. Won Pat Int'l Airport to be expanded, as the based airline Continental Micronesia and the U.S. military will need more space for passengers, freight and their fleet due to overloads. Continental Micronesia and Continental Airlines in 2011 merged into United Airlines, which still uses the airport as a hub.

Incidents

In the entire period of operation of the Antonio B. Won Pat Int'l Airport happened numerous accidents. A total of 367 deaths from 6 different aircraft accidents are to complain to this day. On 6 August 1997 accident, a Boeing 747-300 of Korean Air in Guam (Korean Air flight KE801 ). Nevertheless, the international airport of Guam is considered very safe.
