Antonio Ciseri

Antonio Ciseri ( born October 25, 1821 in Ronco sopra Ascona, † March 8, 1891 in Florence ) was an Italian painter and decorator.

Ciseri was the son of Giovan Francesco, also a decorative painter, and Caterina born Materni, married. Bianchini Cesira, born in Ticino.

In 1833 he moved to Florence, where he was trained in Niccolo and Pietro Benvenuti in the Accademia di Belle Arti Benvenuti. His religious motives are raffaelesk in their composition and transport a plastic representation.

Ciseri created a series of commissioned works for Italian and Swiss Churches. In addition, he painted a large number of portraits, eg by the Bianchini ( gift to his father ).

In 1853 he opened his own art school. His students have included Silvestro Lega (1826-1895), Niccolò Cannicci (1846-1906), Girolamo Nerli (1860-1926) and Raffaello Sorbi ( 1844-1931 ). Egisto Sarri (1837-1901) is regarded as his best pupil.

Ciseri 1852 was appointed professor of higher education at the above-mentioned Academy.

Due to high Ticino tax assets Ciseri in 1877 at his request, an Italian citizen.

He was with Cesira Bianchini, daughter of Gaetano married. Ciseri died 70 years old and was buried in the Florentine church of San Miniato al Monte.

Works

  • The Martyrdom of the Maccabees in the church building S. Felicita in Florence ( 1853-63 ), for which he was awarded in 1873 at the World Exhibition in Vienna with the gold medal, is his most famous work
  • The Entombment of Christ ( Il trasporto di Cristo al sepolcro ) he painted in 1883 in the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Sasso in Orselina
  • Ecce Homo was a commissioned work for the Italian government
