Antonio da Ponte

Antonio da Ponte ( * 1512, † 1595 ) was a Venetian architect and the uncle of Antonio Contin, the builder of the Bridge of Sighs. He was the official architect of the Provveditori al Sal, who were also responsible for the care and maintenance of public buildings in the city next to the salt monopoly. He is the architect of the Rialto Bridge. From him the plan of the new prison (together with Zamaria de ' Piombi ), and the new building of the Cordiere dates ( rope making ) in the Arsenale. The church he designed the Incurabili was completely destroyed in the Napoleonic period.
