Antonio da Sangallo the Elder

Antonio da Sangallo the Elder ( actually Antonio Giamberti, * 1455 in Florence, Italy, † December 27, 1534 ) was an Italian architect and fortress builder.

He was the brother of Giuliano da Sangallo, with whom he often worked together, and the uncle of Antonio da Sangallo the Younger. He built in Montepulciano from 1518 Madonna di San Biagio, the palaces Cervini and Bellarmini, the palace of the Cardinal of Santa Prassede and some churches in San Savino, the Santissima Annunziata church in Arezzo and the citadel in Civita Castellana.
