António Luís de Meneses, 1st Marquis of Marialva

Don António Luís de Meneses, 1st Marquês de MARIALVA and third Conde de Cantanhede ( born December 13, 1603 Cantanhede, † May 19, 1675 ) was one of the most important general of the Portuguese Restauração.

Meneses was born into a distinguished noble family in Portugal in 1640 and took active part in the revolt against Spanish rule in part, the John IV made ​​it the king of the land. The following year he took over as mestre de campo command of the Portuguese Armed Forces and was in this position responsible for the first Portuguese victories. For these achievements, he was raised on June 11, 1661 to the Marquês de MARIALVA. For the campaign of 1663 he replaced Penhaflor as commander of the Portuguese army operation, which he remained until the end of the war in 1668.

After the war, his political career crafted unsuccessful. He died impoverished in 1675 and was buried in the convent of Santo António in Cantanhede.
