Antônio Meneses

Antonio Meneses ( b. 1957 in Recife ) is a Brazilian cellist.

Meneses is considered the most prominent disciple of Antonio Janigro, whose longtime assistant, he was at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart. As the only cellist he won both the ARD Competition, as well as the Tchaikovsky Competition. He was a professor at the Music Academy of Basel and is the cellist of the famous Beaux Arts Trio.

Among his many recordings are particularly worth mentioning is the Brahms Double Concerto with Anne Sophie Mutter and the Berlin Philharmonic under Herbert von Karajan; of Richard Strauss's Don Quixote, also with Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic; and the two cello concertos and the Fantasy for cello and orchestra by Heitor Villa -Lobos with the Galician Symphony Orchestra.
