Antonio Patriota

Antonio de Aguiar Patriota (* April 27, 1954 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian politician without party affiliation. He was from January 1, 2011 to August 26, 2013 Secretary of State and was subsequently appointed UN ambassador for his country. Patriota in favor of extending relations with Africa and the efforts for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council.

Patriota studied philosophy at the University of Geneva and from the year 1979 to prepare his diplomatic career, international relations at the Rio Branco Institute of Brazil. There he had the best academic performance among all the students in his class.

Before he became Foreign Minister, he was, inter alia, In 2004, Secretary of State for diplomatic planning, Head of Cabinet of Celso Amorim, 2005-2007 Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs, and from 2007 to 2008 Ambassador of Brazil in Washington. From 2009 to 2010 he was Secretary General for Foreign Affairs in the government of Lula da Silva.

Antonio Patriota is with Tania Cooper Patriota, representative of the UN Population Fund for Colombia and Venezuela, married. He has two sons, Michael and Thomas.
