Antonio Pons

Antonio Pons Campuzano ( born November 10, 1897 in Guayaquil, † January 1980 ibid ) was an Ecuadorian doctor, Consul, ambassadors and politicians, and from August 20 to September 26, 1935 interim president of his country.

Pons was mayor of Guayaquil, when he was appointed by Velasco Ibarra to the Minister of State. As Velasco Ibarra on August 20, 1935 tried to extend his power in a coup, he was overthrown by the Ecuadorian army and the power was handed over to the pons. This exclaimed presidential elections. When it became clear in the elections the triumph of conservative candidate Alejandro Ponce, Pons transferred power to the military, which in turn Federico Páez certain president.

He was then the end of 1935 Ambassador of Ecuador in Argentina. Then he retired from politics and lived in seclusion in Guayaquil and managed inherited from his haciendas.
