Antonio Pujol

Abel Antonio Pujol Jiménez ( born April 13, 1913 in Chalco de Díaz Covarrubias, † 22 September 1995) was a Mexican painter of Muralismo.

Biography

Pujol was the son of an immigrant coming from Andratx and farmer named Antonio Pujol Martorell and a Mexican mother. He grew up in rural environment. In 1929 he went to Mexico City and continued her music education at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes. In 1933 he became a member of the newly formed League Escritores de Artistas y Revolucionarios. Together with others, he painted with other artists, his first murals on the Mercado Abelardo Rodriguez in the Mexican capital. After participating in the first Pan-American Artists Congress Against War and Fascism (Primer Congreso Panamericano de Artistas Contra la Guerra y el Fascismo ) in New York City, he stayed in 1936 with David Alfaro Siqueiros, Luis Arenal and the Bolivians Roberto Berdecio some time in the city and where she organized an experimental art workshop. In 1937 he joined the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War. After returning to his home country, he was active in the Taller de Grafica Popular and painted with others at the mural of the office building of the Sindicato de Trabajadores Electric fashionistas. In 1940 he went to Montevideo, where he met his wife Ada Canabe Nalerio. In 1960 he returned to Mexico. 1963 his father died.
