Antonio Scandello

Antonio Scandello (also Scandellus or Scandelli; * January 17, 1517 in Brescia, † January 18, 1580 in Dresden) was an Italian composer and conductor of the Renaissance.

Life

Antonio Scandello worked cornetto and the trombone player in the town musicians of Bergamo from 1530, like his father Hieronimus Scandello and his brother Angelo. 1547, he joined Trent in the Chapel of the Cardinal Cristoforo Madruzzo. There he presented in 1549 with a trip to Italy, Elector Moritz of Saxony and five other " Welsh musician " for the newly-founded a Dresden court orchestra. Until 1554 Johann Walter was Kapellmeister, his successor was Mattheus Le Maistre. Scandello 1562 converted to the Lutheran faith, married the daughter of a member of the court orchestra and composed mainly just Protestant music in German language. From 1566 Scandello Vice-Kapellmeister and as "Assigned Moderator " the decrepit Le Maistre was assumed. From 1568 until his death in 1580 Scandello was Kapellmeister, his creativity was, until his sudden death continues unabated. He was buried in the Dresden Frauenkirche cemetery. Several months after scan Dellos death became the new conductor for a short time Giovanni Battista Pinello di Ghirardi.

Work

Scandello created essentially sacred vocal works, mention should be a fair death of Maurice (1553 ) and a German Johannes Passion ( 1561 or earlier). Overall, the factory scan Dellos has strong effect and inspired composers such as Bartholomew Gesius and Heinrich Schütz.
