Antonius Lambertus Maria Hurkmans

Antonius Lambertus Maria Hurkmans, common Antoon Hurkmans, ( born August 3, 1944 in Someren ) is Bishop of 's-Hertogenbosch.

Life

Antoon Hurkmans, one of nine children from a farming family, was initially greengrocers and had its own grocery stores. He joined Warnsveld in the late vocations seminar. After his training in Gemert and in the Norbertine abbey in the Belgian Grimbergen, he studied theology at the Theological Faculty in 1972 in Tilburg. In 1978 he became a Doctor of Divinity. doctorate. Hurkmans received on 22 December 1979 Bishop John Bluyssen in the St. John's Cathedral in 's- Hertogenbosch, the ordination.

Hurkmans was first pastor in Waalwijk. Bishop Johannes ter Schure appointed him in 1987 as rector of the newly founded seminary Sint- Janscentrum in 's- Hertogenbosch. A year later he was appointed vicar general and provost. In 1994 he was appointed by Pope John Paul II Monsignor.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 13 June 1998 to the bishop of ' s-Hertogenbosch. The former bishop of 's- Hertogenbosch, Johannes Gerardus ter Schure SDB, gave him on 29 August 1998, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Johannes Willem Maria Bluijssen, Bishop Emeritus of 's -Hertogenbosch, Joseph Frans Lescrauwaet MSC, Emeritus Auxiliary Bishop of Haarlem, Martinus Petrus Maria Muskens, Bishop of Breda, and Franciscus Jozef Maria Wiertz, Bishop of Roermond. As a motto he chose Sancti Spiritus In virtute (in the power of the Holy Spirit).

Antoon Hurkmans is Grand Prior of the Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem.
