Antwerp–Lage Zwaluwe railway

The railway line Antwerp - able Zwaluwe (also called line 12 ) is a cross-border railway between Antwerp (Belgium ) and location Zwaluwe (Netherlands). The railway is the oldest and most important railway line between Belgium and the Netherlands. The distance is about 64 km, including 33 km in Belgium and in the Netherlands, 31 km run.

History

On July 9, 1852 included Belgium and the Netherlands signed a contract, the construction of a new railway line which should connect to Antwerp Rotterdam. On 26 June 1854, the route between Antwerp and Roosendaal was opened. Four months later, it was also the part between Roosendaal and Oudenbosch. The entire route was officially opened May 1, 1876.

Course

The route begins at the Central Station in Antwerp, thence the line runs east of the center of the stations Antwerpen- Oost and Antwerp - Dam. Then it runs a short time in parallel with the high speed line HSL 4 ( high-speed line Schiphol- Antwerp), it separates but after the Antwerp - Noorderdokken station and continues parallel to the A1. The railway line continues north through more moderate populated area to the border with the Netherlands. Shortly thereafter, the railway station Roosendaal is where interchanges to Flushing and Amsterdam is.

Train services

Prior to commissioning of the high-speed line Antwerp -Amsterdam, the railway line is the main rail link for national and international trains between Belgium and the Netherlands, but on October 1 this is to be opened, so that the Thalys trains as well as most IC trains on the Naubaustrecke be performed.

Currently operating on the route of the Thalys from Paris to Amsterdam. Intercity trains from Brussels to Amsterdam as well as the regional trains from Antwerp to Roosendaal.

Only in Belgium runs an Intercity train from Brussels Charleroi on for food. On the Dutch side, providing hourly InterCity trains from Vlissingen to Amsterdam and a local train from Roosendaal to The Hague.
