Anubis (cipher)

Anubis is a block cipher developed by Vincent Rijmen and Paulo SLM Barreto. It uses a block size of 128 bits and key with key lengths of 128-320 bits. The default key length is 128 bits and can be changed within the given limits in 32-bit increments.

Anubis was one of the candidates to the NESSIE project.

The number of rounds depends on the key length dependent ( 12 rounds at 128 bit key length up to 18 rounds at 320 bit). The Anubis algorithm is not patented.

Anubis belongs to the same family of block ciphers such as the winner of the AES competition RIJNDAEL.

Because Anubis the God of the spiritual director is the realm of the dead and the dead in the crypt (English: crypt) brings, Vincent Rijmen and Paulo SLM Barreto decided on this name. In addition, the English word meaning " encrypt" " encrypted " in German.
