Anzor Kavazashvili

Anzor Amberkowitsch Kawasaschwili (Russian Анзор Амберкович Кавазашвили, georgian ანზორ ყავაზაშვილი / Anzor Qawasaschwili; born July 19, 1940 in Batumi ) is a former Soviet football goalkeeper, coach and sports official Georgian origin.

The late 1960s and early 1970s Kawasaschwili was one of the best goalkeepers in the world, but stood in the Sbornaja in the shade of the century goalkeeper Lev Yashin. Nevertheless, he was used in both World Championships common 1966 and 1970, alternating with Yashin. At club level he played mostly for the two Moscow rivals Spartak and Torpedo, with both teams winning the trophy once each as the championship of the USSR. In addition, he was twice Soviet Goalkeeper of the Year. After his playing days he trained alongside the third division Spartak Kostroma the U-19 selection of the RSFSR, as well as the national teams of Chad and Guinea and worked as an official in the Russian football federation. After the end of the Soviet Union, he ran several times unsuccessfully for president of the Russian Football Union and is now active as a businessman, and as a football expert for various Russian media.

Kawasaschwili was educated in the soccer school of Dinamo Tbilisi, for the first team of the club he gave in 1957 his Erstligadebüt, but remained only second replacement and, after only five more missions in 1959 to the 1960 season as first-choice goalkeeper for Zenit Leningrad. After not quite a year, he moved to the capital at that top club Torpedo, where he, however, the first two years only remained substitute. It was not until 1963 he became a regular force and he soon made ​​a breakthrough; 1965 and 1967 he was elected to the Soviet goalkeeper Lev Yashin of the year each before, at the same time he rose to number two on in goal for the national team and could even Yashin temporarily displace from the target. In 1969, the city rivals Spartak, around 1972 to let his career fade away at second division Torpedo Kutaisi.
