Aoife O'Donovan

Aoife O'Donovan (pronounced I- driver, born November 18, 1982 in Newton, Massachusetts ) is an American singer and songwriter. She was best known as the frontwoman of the formation Crooked Still.

Biography

O'Donovan grew up in Newton near Boston as the eldest daughter of a family of musicians auf.In their musical development it was influenced by the Celtic tradition ( cf. Irish Folk ), who she met during the holidays stays in Ireland and American folk greats such as Joan Baez and Bob Dylan.

At the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, she studied " Contemporary Improvisation" (Contemporary Improvisation ). Early appearances she had with the Wayfaring Strangers, a group that seeks to unite jazz, klezmer, bluegrass and Celtic ( Celtic) influences style across on the basis of American folk music.

In 2001 she co-founded with fellow students Corey DiMario ( bass), Gregory Liszt ( banjo) and Rushad Eggleston (cello) Crooked Still. Was published in 2004 Hop High, the first album of the increasingly successful quartet. With Crooked Still, it published until 2011, four studio and one live album. As a side project acts Sometymes Why, a pure woman trio who debuted with the produced self-published album Sometimes Why 2005.

After the ( temporary) farewell tour of Crooked Still Aoife O'Donovan in 2011 launched a solo career as a singer- songwriter. In the summer of 2013 her first solo album Fossils, she, in a brief European tour in February 2014 also introduced a German audience appeared.

As a singer and composer, she is involved in the Grammy-winning Goat Rodeo Sessions (2012 ). With the Dave Douglas Quintet, she played the jazz album Be a standstill.

She lives since 2009 in New York City in the borough of Brooklyn.
