AOM French Airlines ( later Air Lib ) was a French airline based in Orly and base at Paris -Orly airport.

History

AOM was created in the wake of a wave of consolidation in the airline industry in the early 1990s by the merger of the former Air Outre Mer (AOM, French for " overseas airline" ) with the also French Air Minerve. On February 1, 1992 AOM French Airlines officially took to flight operations. At times, it was considered by Air France as the second largest airline of France, and ran a scheduled and charter network.

In February 1999, the Swiss Swissair acquired a 49 % stake in AOM French Airlines and thus became the largest shareholder. As a result of the collapse of Swissair parent SAirGroup but also AOM ran into financial turmoil. Finally, in the course of the liquidation of the Swissair there was then a further change of ownership. On 22 September 2001, a merger of AOM with the equally French Air Liberté, which led to a name change to Air Lib. However, this could not prevent the ultimate decline. In the fall of 2002, the Dutch IMCA group had announced its intention to acquire 50 % of Air Lib, but this made ​​dependent in the following negotiations by government aid, was what the French Government not ready.

In February 2003, eventually had to file for bankruptcy Air Lib. Since no other investor was found, the competent commercial court in Creteil finally ordered the liquidation of the company.

Objectives

In addition to some domestic destinations like Marseille and Perpignan AOM operated mainly long-haul destinations such as St. Maarten, Sydney, Havana, Tokyo and Los Angeles.
