2-amino -5- phosphonovaleriansäure (short or APV AP5 ) is a synthetic, non-proteinogenic amino acid.
APV is a selective NMDA receptor antagonist, which competitively inhibits this receptor, even in small doses. In this case, the D-enantiomer of the amino acid is considered to be the biologically active isomer.
APV was developed by Jeff Watkins and Harry Olverman.
