Apenheul Primate Park

Input

Apenheul ( German monkey home ) is a primate of specialized, medium-sized zoo in Apeldoorn in the Netherlands.

It was founded on July 12, 1971 by Wim Mager, they started with only a few species of monkeys at, today there are at Apenheul over 30 different types to see. The animals are housed without grid; Bonobos and gorillas inhabit many-headed families, separate islands, smaller species such as lemurs, squirrel monkeys and Barbary macaques live in walk-in installations in which visitors can stay as close to the animals. New is a modern facility for orangutans with a generous climbing of ropes and wooden beams. Since the summer of 2011, three male proboscis monkeys are kept. Apenheul is the only zoo outside Asia who holds this kind.

The attitude of the animals is considered exemplary, many other zoos have later adopted elements from Apenheul, for example, the walk- monkey enclosure in which humans and animals encounter each other directly, and the attitude of apes on separated by wide moats Islands. In a small amphitheater, you can watch several times a day with feeding the gorillas; this show is designed entertaining, but puts its focus on the information about the animals.

In addition to primates there are also representatives of other Apenheul Tierordnugen, for example, water pigs and mongoose, as well as a petting zoo, which is modeled on a farm in Indonesia, and various water birds.
