Apostol Arsache

Apostol Arsache also Arsachi (* 1789 in Hotovë / Hotahova at Përmet, Epirus, † December 1869 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian physician, economist and politician. He was in the period of January 22, 1862 to June 24, 1862 Romanian Foreign Minister, and after the assassination of Prime Minister Barbu Catargiu for a short time appointed acting Prime Minister of Romania.

Life

Arsache studied after school medicine. In 1812 he earned a doctorate in medicine at the University of Halle. His dissertation " De piscium cerebro et medulla Spinali " was the first Romanian book of comparative anatomy. He then worked in Romania as a country doctor. The conservative politician Grigore Alexandru Ghica was appointed under secretary of state. In 1862, he was also interim prime minister for a few months of Romanian foreign minister and after the assassination of Prime Minister Barbu Catargiu of 8 June 1862 to 24 June 1862. Apostol Arsache died at the age of 80 years in Bucharest.
