The Aranui 3 is a combined cargo and passenger ship, which operates mainly between Tahiti and the Marquesas. The vessel supplies the South Sea Islands with both products and use the ship for a cruise tourists. The route runs generally from Papeete on Fakarava, Ua Pou, Nuku Hiva, Hiva Oa, Fatu Hiva by Tahuata and back.

Technical data and equipment

The ship is powered by an eight-cylinder four -stroke diesel engine manufacturer MaK with a power of 3840 kW. The motor acting on a propeller. The ship leads to a velocity of up to 15 knots.

For the power supply a total of four diesel generators with an output of 216 kW (apparent power: 270 kVA), 320 kW (apparent power: 400 kVA ) and twice 500 kW (apparent power: 625 kVA ) are available. A further generator having a power of 500 kW is also (apparent power: 625 kVA) is driven by the main engine.

The ship has eight decks. The superstructure are from about amidships in the back of the ship. The two lower decks aft are designed for RoRo cargoes. The ship has this on a rear ramp. Between the Ro-Ro and from the loading spaces in front of the superstructure are passenger cabins and other rooms. The holds have a mezzanine deck. They are sealed with Faltlukendeckeln. The ship is equipped for the handling of cargo with two Liebherr cranes.
