Arbouans

Arbouans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Arbouans is located at 320 m, about 2 km south of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the basin of Montbéliard, at the northern edge of the valley of the Doubs, at the foot of the French and the northern edge of the outermost foothills of the Jura ( Bois de Voujeaucourt ).

The area of ​​1.32 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the basin of Montbéliard on the southern edge of the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The southern boundary runs along the Doubs, which here flows through a broad valley about one kilometer to the west. From the river, the municipality's area extends northward over the flat Talniederung and adjacent steep slope of the Côte (20 to 30 m high) to the plateau-like hill that separates the broad river valleys of Doubs and Allan. Here the highest elevation of Arbouans is achieved with 352 m.

Neighboring communities of Arbouans are Montbéliard in the north, Audi Court in the east, the south and Voujeaucourt Courcelles- lès -Montbéliard in the West.

History

The area of Arbouans was in the 12th century, cleared by the monks of the monastery Belchamp, which was located on the opposite side of the Doubs and reclaimed. Is first mentioned Arbouans in 1294 under the name Arboens. From 1447 the name Arbohans is preserved. At the time of its first occurrence Arbouans belonged to the dominion Cusance, which was under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard. During the Thirty Years' War, the village was burned in 1635. With the annexation of the county of Montbéliard Arbouans reached 1793 final in French hands. Similar to the other municipalities of the agglomeration Montbéliard Arbouans experienced since the second half of the 19th century an economic boom due to industrialization. So a company of Electrical Engineering and later operation of the boiler construction settled in 1930 Arbouans down. Today Arbouans part of the community association Communauté d' Agglomà du Pays de Montbéliard.

Population

With 973 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Arbouans one of the smaller communities of the department of Doubs. In the first half of the 20th century the population grew until 1962 to significantly ( sixfold increase in the number of inhabitants ). This was followed by a period of stagnation, or after 1975, a decrease of 10 %. The 1980s were marked again by a population growth (25% to 1990). Since then, the population has again declined slightly. Today, the settlement area of Arbouans with those of Montbéliard and Audi Court has grown together almost seamlessly.

Economy and infrastructure

Until the beginning of the 20th century Arbouans was an agricultural community. After that settled in the valley of the Doubs industry and commerce. Today, there are Arbouans various operations of small and medium industries and many shops of retail for your everyday needs. Meanwhile, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the other municipalities of the agglomeration Montbéliard. Arbouans is home to a wide range of sports and leisure zone with seven football fields, several tennis courts, bowling and baseball games.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road that leads from Montbéliard to Audi Court. The nearest links to the A36 motorway, which crosses the municipality and cuts, is located at a distance of about 1.5 km. Another road connection with Courcelles- lès -Montbéliard. With the city of Montbéliard and the surrounding communities Arbouans is connected by a bus. The municipal area is a part of the runway of the airfield facilities Montbéliard -Courcelles is (1930 built ).
