Archibald Douglas, 4th Earl of Douglas

Archibald Douglas, 4th Earl of Douglas called, the Tyneman ( the losers ) ( * ca 1370; ​​† August 17, 1424 in Verneuil ) was a Scottish nobleman and French Duke of Touraine.

Life

Archibald was a son of Archibald Douglas, 3rd Earl of Douglas, and his wife Joan Murray. He succeeded his father as Earl of Douglas, and as Warden of the Marches 1401.

The Earl commanded the army of invasion of Scotland in 1401 in the war against England. In the battle of Homildon Hill on September 14, 1402, he was wounded five times, lost an eye and fell for three years in captivity of Henry Hotspur, where he eventually rebellion against the English king Henry IV joined.

1409 Archibald earned the title of Lord of Anandale and was raised in 1424 in France Duc de Touraine. He fell on August 17, 1424 at the Battle of Verneuil against John of Lancaster, 1st Duke of Bedford. Douglas is buried in the cathedral of Tours.
