Archie Semple

Archibald Stuart Nisbet " Archie " Semple ( born March 31, 1928 in Edinburgh, † 26 January 1974) was a Scottish clarinetist of Dixieland jazz.

Archie Semple played at the beginning of his musical career with local bands in his hometown of Edinburgh, mostly with his brother, trumpeter John Semple. To 1952, he also launched its own formation before he joined the band of trumpeter and singer Mick Mulligan. He then played 1953/55 in the band of trumpeter Freddy Randall, from 1954 in the band of trumpeter Alex Welsh, where he remained until 1963. 1960 and 1961, he took the two albums Jazz for Lovers Living and Night People - in a trio with pianist Fred Hunt and bassist Jack Fallon and expanded to a quartet with Alex Welsh. A nervous breakdown ended Semple's career as a musician; after 1964 he was rarely active in the British jazz scene.

In his play he processed influences of Edmond Hall and Pee Wee Russell.
