Arena Łódź

The Atlas Arena ( until August 2009 Arena Łódź ) is a multi-purpose arena in Łódź, Poland, which was opened in June 2009 and can be used for different types of events.

History

Initial plans for the construction of a new multi-purpose arena in Lodz were already discussed in the 2004 year. The first designs were created by the architectural firm ATJ Architekci headed by Jacek Kwieciński and Tomasz Kosma Kwieciński. After some changes in the draft Construction was finally taken on 19 January 2006. The Arena Łódź was opened on 26 June 2009.

In August 2009, the Polish Atlas Group acquired for five million zloty (about 1.2 million euros ) for five years the naming rights of the arena.

Data and usage

The arena has an official seating capacity of 10,400 seats, which can be increased by additional seating in the interior by 3,000 places. In addition, the stadium has eleven VIP boxes and 1,500 parking spaces outside.

In the arena several major events such as concerts and conferences as well as various sporting events take place. Among other things, the stadium for basketball, volleyball, athletics and hockey can be used.

In 2009, following sports events were held in the Atlas Arena instead:

  • Volleyball World League ( intercontinental matches between Poland and Brazil)
  • Eurobasket 2009
  • Volleyball European Championship for Women 2009

In addition, there concerts and events with national and international artists are held, including: Depeche Mode, Rammstein, Tokio Hotel, Roger Waters, Slayer, Megadeth, Shakira, Sade, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Rihanna, Andrea Bocelli, Elton John, Il Divo, Sting, Muse, Smokie, Justin Bieber, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Green Day, Iron Maiden, Elton John, Leonard Cohen, system of a Down, Toto.
