The Arena Petrol ( also stadium v športnem parku pod Golovcem; German: , stadium Sportpark below the Golovec ') is a football stadium in the Slovenian town Celje. It is the home of the football club NK Celje. From 2004 to 2008, the Slovenian national football team wore their games from Celje.

History

The construction of the stadium began in 1999; opened it with the completed grandstand with 3,600 seats in the East on 12 September 2003. It replaced the stadium Skalna klet of 1904, which is used today for training purposes. The first game in the new stadium wore the junior teams of Slovenia and France ( 0-0) on 9 September 2003 against each other. Three days later clashed with the stadium opening for the first official match NK Celje and Ljubljana V & V (3:1). The naming rights to the sports facility secured in 2005 the Slovenian oil company Petrol. In the two following years, two more stands were erected; what the capacity to around 10,000 spectators increased.

Finally, the construction work came in 2008 with the fourth rank audience in the north, which was opened on 2 March 2008. In the corner between the North and the East Stand is a glass building with 8,400 square feet of space in which offices, shops and restaurants are located. Furthermore it has the sports facility a lawn heating, irrigation system, a video wall and floodlights with 1,400 lux Today the Arena Petrol is one of the largest and most modern football stadium in Slovenia. It offers visitors 13,400 seats ( of which 135 are VIP seats ) are covered by those 7,000.

Matches at the stadium in Celje

From 2004 to 2008, the Slovenian national football team wore their home games at the stadium in Celje. Since then the national team plays in Stožice stadium in Ljubljana and in Ljudski vrt stadium in Maribor.
