Aresches

Aresches is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Aresches is located on 705 m above sea level. M., south of Salins- les- Bains and about 18 km north of the city Champagnole (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, on the first Jura plateau, high above the erosion valley of Furieuse.

The area of ​​4.76 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the territory occupied by the plateau of the Jura plateau, the average altitude of 700 meters. M. is and is passed partly of arable and meadow land, partly by forest. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. To the southeast, the municipality's area extends into the forest area of ​​the Bois de la Foye. With 736 m above sea level. History

Is first mentioned in the year 941 Aresches under the name Arecii; of 1246 the name Aresche is preserved. The place name comes from the French word arracher ( tear ) and refers to an area grubbed. Aresches which formed its own little rule in the Middle Ages, in 1595 troops of King Henry IV destroyed. The village Sercenne in 1649 (then larger than Aresches ) buried under the debris of a landslide mass. Together with the Franche -Comté Aresches came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Aresches belonged from 1826 to 1950 the municipality Moutaine, since it forms again an independent municipality.

Attractions

The village church of Aresches was built in the 16th century. The choir dates from the 17th century, and the bell tower was built in the 19th century. The church has a remarkable interior. On the corridor Chateau-Vieux, there was formerly a castle.

Population

With 40 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Aresches one of the smallest towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century, only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Aresches was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture and forestry village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some of the working population commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road D467 which leads from Salins- les- Bains to Champagnole. Further road links exist with Pont- d'Héry, Thésy and Andelot -en- Montagne.
