Argentière Glacier

The Glacier d' Argentière is a valley glacier in the eastern Mont- Blanc massif. It is located in Haute -Savoie, southeast of Argentière.

Geography

The Glacier d' Argentière has its origin in the north-west face of Mont Dolents and runs about ten kilometers to the north-west direction Argentière. He is enclosed on both sides by two high mountain ranges, whose steep sides it is fed. Orographic left is the chain Aiguille de Triolet - Les Courtes - Les Droites - Aiguille Verte, which drops with steep icy north faces on the Glacier d' Argentière. Further north, close to the Aiguille des Grands Montets, which bears the east side of Glacier Rognons, which flows into the Glacier d' Argentière. Orographic right of the Glacier d' Argentière runs the chain Aiguilles Rouges du Dolent - Tour Noir - Aiguille d' Argentière - Aiguille du Chardonnet, through which runs the French-Swiss border. The south-western slopes of this chain wear several smaller glaciers that flow into the Glacier d' Argentière. Continue down the valley breaks at about 2100 m from the Glacier d' Argentière and is characterized by a steep rock step interrupted (see adjacent picture). The last, completely separate from the main glacier section extends for about 1600 m.

Tourist

On the orographic right side of the Glacier d' Argentière is located at 2771 m Refuge d' Argentière (CAF ). The cottage is reached via the glacier and serves as the starting point for many hikes in the area.

In winter, a stage of the Haute Route, a popular ski route, over the Glacier d' Argentière.

On the summit of the Aiguille des Grands Montets is a cable car station of the Grands Montets ski area, from which a road leads over the Glacier des Rognons, on the edge of the Glacier d' Argentière Argentière after.
