Argumenty i Fakty, abbreviated AIF (Russian Аргументы и Факты, АИФ abbreviated; German: "Arguments and Facts ") is the most widely read Russian weekly newspaper.

History

The journal was founded in Soviet times in 1978 to provide a propagandistic talking points lecturers those statistics and figures, which were difficult to find in the official press. At the time of glasnost, it was the largest circulation newspaper in the world and as such was in May 1990 in the Guinness Book of Records, with a circulation of 33.5 million copies. The release of printing and paper prices below Yegor Gaidar finished the indirect state subsidies for all Russian print media. This means that the rest of the Argumenty i Fakty fell significantly.
