Arianta arbustorum

Spotted Schnirkelschnecke ( Arianta arbustorum )

The Spotted Schnirkelschnecke ( Arianta arbustorum ), also known as tree snail or Baumschnirkelschnecke, is a housing supporting breathing land snail. Their range extends from north-west Europe to Central Europe.

Features

The case of Arianta arbustorum is spherical with a conical raised thread. However, the height of the thread and the size of the navel is very variable. The navel is often ( but not always) completely concealed by the spindle envelope of the white mouth lip. Essentially two form variants occur: a form with spherical housing and closed umbilicus, and a shape with flattened thread and open umbilicus. The latter form is limited to a few high-lying areas in the Alps. Your coloring is mostly maroon with yellow spots and a dark band. Arianta arbustorum counts in terms of their shape the most variable species of snails. In many cases, different geographic valley and mountain forms are described, which is due to their pronounced polymorphism. Similar to the banded snails also led Arianta arbustorum the selection by throttling ( throttle forge) to a distribution of different -looking body.

Occurrence

Due to their low environmental claims it can be found at many sites, including in the mountains (up to 2700 m), in forests and open habitats. However, it prefers moist habitats. The high mountain shape with a flattened body and open umbilicus is interpreted as a relict form that survived on nunataks during the last ice age.
