Ariel University

The University of Ariel in Samaria (Hebrew אוניברסיטת אריאל בשומרון ) is an Israeli university in the Jewish settlement of Ariel in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

The University is a member of the International Association of Universities.

History

Foundation

The university was founded in 1982 as an offshoot of Bar - Ilan University. Until the academic year 2004 /05, this compound remained upright and the college was renamed as " College of Judea and Samaria ." The Israeli government planned the college - which essentially corresponds to a Fachhochschule in the German language - upgrade to a university. This project failed because of the state accreditation authority. The local district authority for higher education, however, accepted the status change. Still has changed on the official status of the center until today nothing.

Academic boycott

In early 2011 called 145 Israeli academics to boycott the university to protest against the expansion of the Siedlunsgaktivitäten. In their petition stated: " Ariel is not part of the territory of Israel. Therefore, we can not be forced to go there. " Previously, the Spanish government had the University of Ariel excluded from an international competition. The Anti-Defamation League protested against this decision, the British Association of University Teachers (AUT ) boykottoierte the Bar - Ilan University in April 2005 because of their connection to the University of Ariel. The boycott was lifted in May 2005.
