Aris Fioretos
Aris Fioretos (Greek Άρης Φιορέτος, born February 6, 1960 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish writer and translator Austro- Greek origin.
Life
Aris Fioretos was born the son of a Greek father and an Austrian mother in Sweden. He studied comparative literature at the University of Stockholm, pratique at the École des hautes études in Paris and at Yale University. The promotion took place in 1991 and 2001, the Habilitation.
Fioretos published his first literary work in 1991 following His books have been translated into several languages -. Including English, German, French, Dutch, Greek, Norwegian and Serbian. German readers it was introduced in 1995 in the literary magazine accents. In 2013 he published his last book so far, the prose Half the sun, in German. In 2011, the novel made the last Greek sensation. Fioretos also translated several books, among others, by Paul Auster, Friedrich Hölderlin, Vladimir Nabokov, Walter Serner and Peter Waterhouse. He has received numerous awards and scholarships, among others, from the Getty Center, the Swedish Academy, the Berlin artist program of the DAAD and the American Academy in Berlin and All Souls College, Oxford University.
Since 1997 Fioretos living as a freelance writer in Stockholm and Berlin. 2004-2007, he was Counsellor for Cultural Affairs at the Swedish Embassy in Berlin. Since 2010 he is professor of aesthetics at Södertörn University College in Stockholm. In the same year he was appointed a member of the German Academy for Language and Literature in Darmstadt and then elected as one of three vice - presidents. He currently holds the Dag Hammarskjöld visiting professorship in Northern European Studies at Humboldt -Universität zu Berlin. On 16 July 2010, Fioretos ' contribution to popular broadcast Sweden, Sommar ( "Summer" ), a series of self-portraits of known and unknown Sweden broadcast.
