Arman Manukyan

Arman Manukyan (or Manugyan; born March 21, 1931 in Istanbul, † December 28, 2012 ) was a Turkish economist of Armenian descent.

Biography

The Armenian Christian Arman Manukyan was born in Tahta Minaret district of Istanbul. His father Artin fought in the Battle of Gallipoli at Canakkale and was awarded the Medal of Independence ( Istiklal Madalyasi ) of the new Turkish nation-state. Artin was a shoe store owner and 30 years old when he heirarete 1930 Eliz; the couple had their first son Arman 1931. Manukyan began his education in 1938 at the Armenian private school in the district of Şişli Pangaltı the city of Istanbul. He wrote in 1945 a Robert College. There he met Talat Halman, Rahmi Koç, Oktay Yenal and other know 1951 and received his PhD in business and commerce. For the operation of his father Manukyan often traveled abroad, including six times to Japan. After his military service in the Turkish army in 1953, he met his future wife, Ali during his summer holidays on the Prince Island Kınalıada. On September 13, 1956 he became a professor. He continued his studies at the University of Miami. His wife was also a student at the University of Miami, Department of Music. Arman Manukyan published there his first book, The History and Evolution of Accounting in 1960. Arman and Alis Manukyan got their first son Roy immediately after the publication of the book. The couple decided to retire to Turkey, and Arman Manukyan continued his career continued Professor at Robert College. In 1971 he started at the Bosphorus University to teach and was retired in 1982. Among his students were Güler Sabancı, Tansu Çiller, Ömer Dinçkök, Jak Kamhi and more. Even after his retirement, he gave further at least once a week lessons.
