Armando (artist)

Armando (actually Herman Dirk van Dodeweerd, born September 18, 1929 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch artist.

Life

As a five- year-old Armando began to play the violin. 1935 to 1950 he lived in Amersfoort. 1945-1949 he played the violin in various bands with swing and gypsy music. He studied from 1949 to 1954 Art History and Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam. In 1949, he turned to drawing, 1950 wrote his first poems. After he had received in 1950 the study of art history in Amsterdam, he began to paint in 1951. In 1958 he founded the artists Kees van Bohemia, Henk Peeters on Jan Henderikse and Jan Schoonhoven, the Netherlands Informal Group, 1960, the group nul. In the years 1961-1965 he maintained close contacts with the Dutch and international Zero movement. From 1965 to 1967 he worked exclusively as a writer, in 1967 he published the book Sleutelaar Hans De SS -ers. Since 2004 his paintings became more colorful, with a few black elements.

Armando lives and works in Amstelveen and Potsdam.
