History

As part of the former Soviet Union, Armenia turned to 1991 no separate U- 21 team. Only in 1994 was appointed to the first junior national team. In the first game against Belgium put it equal to a 0:7 defeat. Since the Euro 1996 one tries to qualify for this, but failed so far. By 2000, more than Table, we managed to qualify for the European Championship 2002 on the penultimate place. 2006 it failed short of a sensation.

Since the next European Championship not only the usual two years later, but in 2007 took place after the 2006 European Championships, the appropriate qualification was played in a summary trial. Starting with a preliminary round, over a short group stage with three teams and the play-off games. In the preliminary round to defeat in the first leg San Marino 2-1. On 9 June 2006, two weeks later, the team won on home turf even 4-0. This was the highest ever achievement in the history of the U -21 Armenia. Thus, Armenia entered the group stage. There the Ararat with Bosnia / Herzegovina and Norway had to be measured. In the first game, on 16 August 2005, the team moved to Bosnia / Herzegovina 2:3 with the shorter, but could defeat shortly after Norway 1-0. However, this was only enough to place two and thus the play-offs were missed. In qualifying for the 2009 European Championships, the team surprised everyone with good results. Although it was only enough to place four of five, but in addition to two victories against Lichtenstein, the Armenen fought on 8 September 2007, a 1-1 draw against the Czech Republic and a 2-1 win on 20 August 2008 against the eventual Table First, Turkey. It was the only defeat for the Turkish team in the group stage.
