Armenian numerals

The Armenian font number is a number font that is based on the Armenian script. There was no sign of zero. The Armenian figures were widely used until the takeover of Indian numerals, sometimes they are still used to indicate years or chapter numbers.

Examples

To display numbers only uppercase letters are used basically because the Armenian font initially did not contain small letters. The numbers Օ (10000) and Ֆ (20000) were first introduced in the Middle Ages, when the corresponding letters were added to the alphabet.

  • Ծ = 50
  • ՃԻ = 100 20 = 120
  • ՌՋՀԵ = 1000 900 70 5 = 1975
  • ՍԴ = 2000 4 = 2004
  • ՍՄԻԲ = 2000 200 20 2 = 2222

The traditional Armenian chronology begins on March 5, 1935 551 So corresponds to AD the Armenian 1384 ( ՌՅՁԴ ) or 1385 ( ՌՅՁԵ ).

Գ. գլուխ means Chapter 3. Գարեգին Բ. ( transliterated Garegin B.) means Karegin II
