Arnaldo Ribeiro

Arnaldo Ribeiro, also Dom Arnaldo, ( born January 7, 1930 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, † December 15, 2009 ) was a Roman Catholic Archbishop of Ribeirão Preto.

Life

Arnaldo Ribeiro, the eldest of seven children, studied philosophy in Belo Horizonte. From 1948 he lived at the Colégio Pio Brasileiro in Rome and studied theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University. He received on 13 March 1954, the sacrament of Holy Orders in the Lateran church. He was subsequently hospital chaplain in Veracruz, and later rector of seminaries in Veracruz and Belo Horizonte.

1975 Pope Paul VI appointed him. Titular Bishop of Sicilibba and appointed him as Auxiliary Bishop of Belo Horizonte. He received his episcopal consecration on December 27, 1975 in the Cathedral of Our Lady of Sorrows in Belo Horizonte, the Archbishop of Belo Horizonte, João Resende Costa SDB; Co-consecrators were José Ivo Lorscheiter, Bishop of Santa Maria, and Serafim Fernandes de Araújo, former coadjutor archbishop in Belo Horizonte and later Cardinal. From 1976 to 1989 he was also vicar general of the Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte. He was coordinator of the visit of Pope John Paul II in 1980. From 1987 to 1989 he was Chairman of the East II region of the Brazilian Bishops' Conference ( CNBB ) and member of the Permanent Council of the cnbb responsible for youth ministry. He was a member of the Episcopal Commission for the translation of the liturgical books of the cnbb.
