Arnarfjörður

The fjord Arnarfjörður (German " Adler fjord ") is the second largest in the West Fjords in Iceland. It is located at around the center and extends from northwest to southeast 30 km into the country to the Bay Dynjandivogur. Its width is 5 to 10 km.

Description

Inside the fjord is split into two branches, one of which is called a Suðurfirðir and, as the plural of the name suggests, further splits. One of these side fjords, for example, the Geirþjófsfjörður. The northern arm in turn divided into the Borgarfjorður and Dynjandisvogur. The innermost edge of the fjord are very steep, the road seems almost milled into it.

Volcanism

On the north shore of the fjord rise for the Westfjords unfamiliar mountains, very sharp fed ground by glaciers and partly full of gabbro and rhyolite. Attractions

Below and slightly east of these mountains lies the hamlet Hrafnseyri, who has a great past.
