Arnold Meijer

Arnoldus Jozephus ( Arnold) Meijer ( born May 5, 1905 in Haarlemmermeer, † June 17, 1965 in Oisterwijk ) was a Dutch politician.

Life

Meijer initially studied theology to become a Catholic priest, but finished his studies when he was sub-deacon, and began to be interested in journalism. In the years 1933-1934 he was the head of the propaganda Algemeene Nederlandsche Facisten Bond ( General Dutch Fascist League ) for North Brabant and Zeeland. In May 1934 he founded the right-wing anti -Semitic and anti-capitalist Zwart Front ( Black Front ). The members came in part from the ANFB and the party was aimed primarily from on Catholic voters and center stand. After the condemnation Zwart Front by Roman Catholic bishops, who called for loyalty to the Queen, democracy and the Roman Catholic State Party, the number of Catholic voters Zwart took the front off quickly, for this reason, triggered a large part of his followers.

Arnold Meijer was attracted more by the Italian fascism than from the German National Socialism, although initially be tough anti-Semitism had in common with Nazism. It is striking in this context that Meijer on behalf of the Zwart Front criticized the persecution of Jews in the German Reich and in a letter to Adolf Hitler condemned the persecution of the Jews.
