Arnold & Porter LLP is an American law firm based in Washington, DC. Advises and represents national and multinational companies, financial institutions and governments.

History

The company was founded in 1946 by Thurman Arnold and Abe Fortas in Washington, DC The two professors from Yale University in 1947 took Paul A. Porter to name as leading partner, until 1946, the Federal Communications Commission launched in 1944. After Fortas was appointed in 1965 by Lyndon B. Johnson to the Supreme Court of the United States, the company received its present name. At the national level, the firm achieved fame through the perception of numerous criminal and civil cases before the Supreme Court. Thus, the firm represented Gideon v. Wainwright case in the interests of the applicant. In addition, the firm represented the victims of the Buffalo Creek dam collapse. More recently, the firm great method of copyright came into existence in the area. The lawyers in the London office occurred in a legal dispute over copyright infringement in connection with the published by Dan Brown bestseller The Da Vinci Code for the Random House Publishing Group. At numerous large acquisitions firm's lawyers were involved. Thus, the firm accompanied, among others, the U.S. Airways in its merger with America West in 2005 and oversaw the expansion of the industrial consortium of AT & T.

With seven offices in the United States of America ( Denver, Los Angeles, Tysons Corner, New York City, Palo Alto, San Francisco, Washington, DC), the firm focuses its activities on the American market. Since 1997, as well as an office in London will entertain. The Brussels office is primarily responsible for matters relating to European law.
