The Arnstädter Central Station is a railway station of the Deutsche Bahn in Arnstadt ( Thuringia). It is the largest train station in the Ilm-Kreis and one of only four roll-call main railway stations in Thuringia. It covers the passenger station, the freight station and as Rangierbezirke the former railway station Arnstadt East and the siding into the industrial area " Erfurt cross." In the city of Arnstadt, there is the breakpoint Arnstadt South.

The main railway station is the junction of the railway lines Neudietendorf - Ritschenhausen ( part of the line Erfurt-Arnstadt-Suhl-Meiningen/Würzburg Erfurt and Arnstadt - Ilmenau ) and Arnstadt -Saalfeld.

History

The station was put into operation on 16 May 1867. At that time he was the endpoint of a railway line to the north of Erfurt. In 1879, then followed the railway line to Plaue - Ilmenau in the south and 1894 the Saalfeld distance to the southeast. The distance between Plaue and Ritschenhausen which crossed the Thuringian Forest, was completed in 1884. In 1911, the route was highly placed in the urban area Arnstadt. In addition, there were 1885-1967 and a small northeastern rail link to Ichterhausen. This privately owned prior to nationalization spur track had its own railway station on the southeast side of the crossing of the former B4 labeled " Ichtershäuser station ", then later Arnstadt East.

Before the Second World War held in Arnstadt long-distance trains from Berlin to Stuttgart / Tübingen. Among other things, Arnstadt was the main station ( as the train station since 1924 is called ) maintenance of the D 14 of Berlin Anhalt station to Rome via Stuttgart, Zurich HB and Chiasso. Due to the German division of the station then lost in importance. However, there were still major routes to Meiningen and Suhl in a southerly direction and Erfurt, Magdeburg, Halle ( Saale), Leipzig, Dresden, Görlitz and Berlin in the opposite directions. 1984, the 11 km long railway line between Neudietendorf and Arnstadt main station was electrified in order to perform a change of locomotive only in Arnstadt and so can relieve the main train station in Erfurt. This Arnstadt received after 15 May of the same year as the only county seat beside Meiningen and Zwickau connection to the Städteexpress system of the DR Early in the morning of the ex -inverted 150 " Rennsteig " to Berlin and in the evening the return ex 157 to Meiningen. This piece of track is one of the few in Germany, where the overhead line was dismantled, which was done in the 1990s, as there are no trains running on Erfurt also trains more and get the trains of Saalfeld, or Meiningen from non-electrified areas. The inter-regional connection ( Berlin ) Frankfurt -Stuttgart with a stop in Arnstadt was also reinstated.

The Arnstädter Central Station was also connected a depot. It now acts as a depot Arnstadt / historic and manages all steam locomotives of the Central Germany.
