The World ( Original title: Around the World in Eighty Days ) 80 Days is an American feature film from 1956, which was directed by Michael Anderson. Produced by Michael Todd epic film based on the novel Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne.
Action
1872: The English gentleman Phileas Fogg is a seemingly emotionless man who strictly lives his daily routine according to fixed habits according to the clock. One day he makes a bet with some other members of his London club to 20,000 pounds that he manages, in 80 days to travel around the world. Together with his new valet Passepartout he breaks immediately on the world tour. To his misfortune takes place simultaneously in London a mysterious bank robbery instead. The police believe the unsuspecting Fogg due to its rapid departure and carried by him, required for travel enormous amount of cash mistaken for the robber. A police detective clings on to its heels. During their journey, they carry out with the aid of gas balloons, trains, ships, elephants, etc., Fogg and Passepartout experience all sorts of fantastic adventures. Many difficulties and delays are to master that threaten their schedule. In India, they even succeed, a young Indian princess who is to be sacrificed during a religious ceremony, save, and take them on their further journey. The young woman succeeds Fogg to open their eyes and realize the folly of his previous way of life, and he falls in love with her.
Arrived back in England - Fogg is close to winning the bet - accesses the police officer and arrested Fogg. Although it might turn quickly the error out, but Fogg returns with Passepartout a day late beaten in his home in London back. Together with his young Indian woman who is devoted to him, to be his wife and wants to help him to start a new life. After a comfort to him, because he has lost his bet probably. But that is suddenly error out: In the journey through the different time zones he crossed the International Date Line to the east and " shortened " as its duration. Therefore Fogg was wrong when leading his travel diary for a whole day. It is therefore meets on the last day in London. Hastily, he embarks on his club to arrive punctually at the appointed time there. The path is strewn with obstacles, as usual, but just the sound of the gong he enters the club and wins the bet happy.
