Arrondissement of Molsheim

The Arrondissement of Molsheim is an administrative district in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region of France.

Geography

The district is bordered to the north by the district Saverne, on the east by the Arrondissement Strasbourg- Campagne, on the south by the district Sélestat - Erstein, on the southwest by the Arrondissement of Saint- Dié -des-Vosges in the department of Vosges (Lorraine ) and on the northwest by the district Sarrebourg in Moselle, also in Lorraine.

History

On 4 March 1790, associated with the establishment of the department of Bas- Rhin the present territory of the former arrondissements " districts " Strasbourg and Schlettstadt. It was (as of February 10, 1806 Schlettstadt ) and Saint- Dié in the Vosges integrated with the founding of the arrondissement on 17 February 1800, the new arrondissements Strasbourg, Barr.

Since May 18, 1871, the area was established as a county in the district of Bas-Rhin Molsheim in Alsace-Lorraine Reich country for the first time. The group comprised 740 km ² and at that time had 69 328 inhabitants in 1885.

The district was established as part of the reintegration of Alsace to France on 28 June 1919 ( Treaty of Versailles).
