Arsénio Bano

Arsénio Paixão Bano ( born March 23, 1974 in Oecussi- Ambena, Portuguese Timor ) is a politician from East Timor. He belongs to the leftist FRETILIN.

Career

Bano originally started a management study in Indonesia that he had to drop out after he had jumped in November 1994 together with other students over the wall of the United States Embassy in Jakarta, to draw attention during the Indonesian occupation on situation in East Timor. Bano was after twelve days of occupation of the embassy to Portugal leave the country, from where he went to London. Here he worked for the human rights organization TAPOL as Campaign and Research Assistant.

On 6 October 1999 Bano returned to the departure of the Indonesians back to East Timor and worked for the student movement RENETIL and the CNRT, the umbrella organization of the East Timorese independence movement. Under the UN administration of East Timor Bano worked since 2000 as Executive Director of the East Timor NGO Forum FONGTIL, an umbrella organization that coordinated the work of local and international non-governmental organizations in the country and provided them with this information. At the same time he was chairman of the Fundação Fatu Sinai Oe- Cusse FFSO and the Managing Director of Tola, a human rights newspaper in East Timor.

Bano speaks Baikeno ( the language of his home district ), Tetum, Portuguese, English and Bahasa Indonesia.

Political offices

As of September 20, 2001 Bano was Secretary of State for " work and solidarity." On 26 July 2005, he was promoted to Minister. After the elections of June 30, 2007 Bano was replaced by Maria Domingues Micató Fernandes Alves, now the Ministry of "social solidarity " led.

Since July 30, 2007 Bano is the deputy leader of the FRETILIN. With his election, the new generation is to be prepared. So far the politicians of the independence movement of the 1970s the party leadership held. From 2007 to 2012, he sat as a member of parliament. On the list of candidates of his party, he held the three space. In the parliamentary elections in 2012 Bano was no longer on the electoral list.

Bano is member of the Central Committee of FRETILIN and the National Policy Commission.

Private

Bano is married to Kerry Brogan since 1998. The couple has three children.
