Artemidoros

Artemidoros Aniketos was an Indo - Scythian or Indo- Greek king who ruled around 100-85 BC.

Artemidorus is only as good as his coins known to have been minted in Gandhara and Taxila, which will have complied with its approximate dominion.

On some of his coins he calls himself a son of Maues. Maues (ca. 120-85 BC) was an Indo - Scythian ruler. The interpretation of this document is difficult. This filiation may mean that the Indo- Scythians also used Greek names, but it can also mean that Artemidorus was an Indo- Greek who wanted to affirm his loyalty to the Indo- Scythians with this filiation. The style of his coins with the portrait of the ruler, however, is closer to Greek standards, which Artemidorus was probably a vassal of the Greek Maues, but in turn may imply simply that he still used working in traditional Greek tradition mints.
